A foreign travel company analyzed the laws and protective measures for sexual minorities, as well as hate crime against these groups in 150 countries. According to the LGBT+ risk index table published at the end of 2019, the following are 10 “safest” Latin America countries for sexual minorities — at the same time they are most interesting and attractive tourist destinations. Uruguay
Among the Latin America countries, Uruguay gets the highest grade — 237 points. Brazil gets a grade of 176 points. In Brazil, same-sex marriage and adoption are legal, but there are special regulations to punish hate crime. In addition, there is no law to protect sexual minorities as workers from unfair dismissal. However, 75% of the interviewees said Brazil is a good place for sexual minorities.
Ecuador
To be specific, Ecuador and Brazil get the same points. The only detail for Ecuador to be inferior to Brazil is 25% of the interviewees think Brazil is ideal for sexual minorities.
Mexico
Mexico gets 170 points. Although adoption is not allowed by those in same-sex marriage in Mexico, and there is no provision to punish hate crime, 75% of the interviewees from LGBT+ think this country is good for sexual minorities to settle.
Argentina
Although there is the first drag queen from the presidential family in Latin America, Argentina nearly has no law to protect sexual minorities. In other word, although same-sex marriage and adoption are legal, there is no constitutional law in Argentina to protect sexual minorities from social and workplace discrimination. Additionally, there is no provision to punish hate crime. Just like those in Mexico, 75% of the interviewees think Argentina is an ideal place for sexual minorities to live in.
Chile
Chile just gets 150 points. Although sexual minorities are protected against discrimination, same-sex marriage is not legal yet.
Honduras
Honduras gets a grade of 114 points. Only 25% of the interviewees think this country is a good place for sexual minorities. In addition, LGBT+ lovers cannot marry and form their family in this country. However, in order to protect the visitors and residents who are sexual minorities, there are laws and regulations to prohibit hate crime.
Peru
Peru is roughly the same as Honduras. Although LGBT+ groups cannot enjoy the rights of marriage and forming a family, the law protects sexual minorities against hate crime. In addition, this country has beautiful scenery that you must go to see.
